Backwaters of Ernakulam
A collection of islands and narrow peninsulas, Ernakulam may be termed as the center of Kerala. It is the commercial centre and forms the main land. Kerala's commercial capital and the most cosmopolitan city Kochi is in Ernakulam. Kochi is also known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea.
Backwaters of Kasargod
This northern-most district of Kerala is a popular tourist destination thanks to its location. It has the sea to the west and Western Ghats to the north and east. Kerala's two main cruise options - Chandragiri and Valiyaparamba - are accessible from Kasargod making it one of the most visited backwater destinations in the state.
Backwaters of Kollam
This historic coastline district is located 71 km to the north of Thiruvananthapuram. It is known for its marine and cashew industries. One of the oldest ports on the Malabar coast, once it was a major international trading point. The district also has some interesting historic remnants and a number of temples built in the traditional ornate architectural style.

This mountainous district is sandwiched between serene palm-fringed backwaters on the west and the Western Ghats on the east. Backwaters of Kumarakom
Kumarakom is small water world in the Kuttanad region. It is a cluster of little islands on the Vembanad Lake. The bird sanctuary here, spread across 14 acres, is a favorite haunt of migratory birds and an ornithologist's paradise. Egrets, darters, herons, teal, waterfowl, cuckoo, wild duck and migratory birds like the Siberian stork live here.
